I’ve always made tiny ink drawings. They are fast, evocative, and can fit anywhere.

(note: the cartoon is now a bestselling print that you can buy, lol)
This evolved into doing really quick ink drawings everywhere I go. In recent years I have paired this with a travel watercolour set that really just lets me rip out colourful finished drawings wherever I go (eg: this post). I even went to the Met and live-drew a bunch of the art for the New Yorker. I truly love doing it, but this process also fits with the voice in my head that’s like “isn’t the sheer number of drawings you complete the objective marker of a successful creative life, and aren’t you therefore very successful???”
SO ANYWAY, when I went to Italy, something shifted!
