I’ve always made tiny ink drawings. They are fast, evocative, and can fit anywhere.

October 2018 - scribbled this cartoon on scratch paper after one of the most stressful phone calls of my life and then taped it to my laptop for inspiration. It truly got me through a LOT.

(note: the cartoon is now a bestselling print that you can buy, lol)

This evolved into doing really quick ink drawings everywhere I go. In recent years I have paired this with a travel watercolour set that really just lets me rip out colourful finished drawings wherever I go (eg: this post). I even went to the Met and live-drew a bunch of the art for the New Yorker. I truly love doing it, but this process also fits with the voice in my head that’s like “isn’t the sheer number of drawings you complete the objective marker of a successful creative life, and aren’t you therefore very successful???”

SO ANYWAY, when I went to Italy, something shifted!
