This isn’t a travelogue, strictly speaking - Hawaii was marvellous and relaxing but I didn’t draw a single thing (except for this on the last day to thank the hotel staff).
But I thought I’d share a little story about my snorkelling journey. The last time we went to Hawaii, 5 years ago to the day, I tried snorkelling and was not successful.
This year, I figured I’d ENSURE my success and LOOK AT SOME HAWAIIAN FISH by booking myself onto a SNORKELLING TOUR. Unfortunately, it turns out I have the world’s most delicate inner ear and was already defeated by the 15 minute boat ride to the area where we were to snorkel.
I figured that being in the water would make me feel better, but did you know that bobbing on top of gentle ocean waves can make you even MORE seasick?!
There were thousands of fish, and even a turtle, and I succeeded in breathing underwater and looking at all of them, but I have truly never been so disoriented in my entire life.
Eventually, I asked to be taken back to the boat (read: too ill to swim, but trying to play it cool)
In lieu of comics, I broke out my film camera - a second-hand Canon A1. I partially exposed the end of the roll, but things still turned out alright.
I will continue to try to conquer ocean swimming. Until then, I will be content in the mountains.

If you barf while snorkeling, the fishies like the snacks.
Love these drawings and though I am not stricken with inner ear/snorkeling issues, my wife has a very similar story and I look forward to sharing these with her. Thank you again.
