It’s been an exhausting couple of weeks….
spent furiously planning New Yorker centennial festivities (unofficial! unaffiliated!) in New York, around the rest of my life.
Took a red eye to get here.
I am currently typing this up as a skeleton in the hotel lobby and waiting for my room to become available so i can finally nap. But I just….. I love New York! I love it!

I feel so blessed I get to come here for WORK and that the work is cartoons.
I’m very sad and angry about the hostile rhetoric coming out of this administration re: Canada. I don’t have anything particularly enlightened to contribute right now, but thankfully, Canadian national treasure KATE BEATON does (of course) - read her brilliant comic here.
This video of Robin Williams performing “Blame Canada” at the Oscars is also weirdly comforting, if depressingly prescient.
I super wish this wasn’t happening, but it is, and nonetheless I refuse to forfeit these relationships / will continue to make MANY MORE of them, BECAUSE:
One other thing I did to cheer myself up is sign up for the Central Park Half Marathon. I would have had to do a half marathon-length training run this week anyway, so i figured why not ALSO get a medal out of it?
And then i thought, by god i am a New Yorker cartoonist and this is New Yorker centennial weekend, i am going to DESIGN A RACE DAY CARTOON SHIRT with all the time that I don’t have, and the prospect getting an official race photo of myself in the shirt will be the REAL incentive to drag myself to the start line at 7am in sub-zero (celsius) temperatures after probably 4 hours of sleep.
(sneak peek at the shirt/process behind the paywall)
