the Venice comics that didn't make the cut
+ inspiration from the camera roll
For the Venice Biennale dispatch, the idea was that I’d pitch a handful of single-image gags that captured the general energy of the thing, from which my editor would pick a few to publish. But, there was SO much going on that I ended up pitching seven (seven!) multi-panel comics of varying length. Only two were selected (read them here and here) - here are the rest, sketched out on my iPad.
1) Canal
It was very heartwarming to see this guy patting his friend’s back as he barfed directly into the canal.
2) The Music Continues
I was pretty sure this one wouldn’t get picked up for its more news-y tone, but after experiencing so much cognitive dissonance all week, I had to at least try to put some thoughts to (digital) paper, if only for myself.
The rest of the comics, and some bonus reference photos from the camera roll, are behind the paywall — thanks for reading!
