Hello! I’m cartoonist and illustrator Zoe Si. Welcome to Zoe Sees.
I started this newsletter so I could connect with readers without the need to rely on social media. I have always used Instagram to communicate updates and share art online, but engagement for photos has dropped alarmingly in the past year, and I want an interactive landing page that isn’t dependent on an algorithm. I’m looking forward to reclaiming a space online that feels like it’s mine to build - just like my old Livejournal, but significantly less mortifying.
I chose the name “Zoe Sees” because it’s a pun on my name, haha (“Zoe Si” pronounced “see”), AND all that I really aim to do with cartoons is share how I see things, and in the process, get you thinking about how you see things, too. So, in addition to updates about new books and publications, I’ll be sharing journal comics, travelogues, process posts, and more for free subscribers. These won’t be posted anywhere else (ie: not on Instagram). There will also be bonus content for paid subscribers, including a monthly interactive drawing exercise - something new I’m trying that I hope will keep me accountable with my own practise. Updates will likely be biweekly to monthly. I am trying to strike a balance between posting mindfully and authentically, and the compulsion to be a content farm. In any event, I hope you get something valuable out of it!
