Hello again Substack.
Writing Substack posts is hard. But did you know that writing a book is harder???
It has been alternating between torturous and revelatory, but after drawing such a personally impactful and emotionally devastating chapter at Yaddo, it’s been mostly torturous as I continued down the (ill advised) path of “attempting to transform my worst memories into gold.”
Anyway, to give myself a break, this week i am taking a hard left turn back to the SILLY IRREVERENT CARTOONS that birthed me, and to that end, I went into my archive and printed out every relevant lawyer cartoon and sorted them by category.
What will i do with these? i truly can’t say at the moment, but i mostly just wanted to document the realized pipe dream that is this huge amount of horizontal space to allow me to look at all the cartoons at the same time, which was OF COURSE the whole point of getting the long table in the first place. (Fun fact: the table at the bottom of the image is actually a portable drawing desk perched on top of my art supply cart, which has wheels so i can move it around. INGENUITY!)
Here are some comics from the deep, deep archive (which can be found on my instagram if you scroll back far enough)

Looking back at some of these is a gigantic exercise in climbing cringe mountain but as we know, that is the only path to glory!
Thanks all!
xo Zoe
I love your cartoons! The image of all your work spread out on your table is awesome to see 💛
This really resonates. I’m a former lawyer who always knew deep down I was a cartoonist
