Comic convention season!

Come visit me at VanCAF and MCAF!

The Vancouver Comic Arts Festival is this weekend!

You can find ME!!! in the gym at Table K5-B.

And…. the Montreal Comic Arts Festival is NEXT weekend!

I will have a table inside tent B13 all weekend, AND I am doing a comic improv session with Haley Boros on the Saturday doing what I do best - drawing things on the spot!

This will be my first time in Montreal! I’m staying a couple of days after the festival to take in some of the sights and see friends - if you have any favourite things to see/eat/do in town, let me know!

I’ll be selling old and brand-new prints, limited edition New Yorker prints, TWO con-exclusive zines, and my favourite - 5-minute sticker commissions.

I hardly ever do commissions except for these stickers at cons because they are soooo fun.

Here’s a little retrospective of all of the VanCAFs i’ve attended:

2014 - I went so I could meet Natasha Allegri, a true hero of mine and the reason I started drawing autobiographical comics

2015 (doing work on the laptop) - 2016 - 2017 - 2018 - 2019 - 2023, with False Knees!

Bonus conventions:

Victoria Comic Con in 2018 - where I very nervously met a bunch of my webcomic idols (and now friends!) - not an exaggeration to say that being welcomed into the fold by such wonderful, kind people changed my whole life and made me realize there WAS somewhere I belonged!

Rhode Island Comic Con in 2019 - another transformative weekend spent living in a house full of webcomic friends, eating surprisingly good Italian food and drawing cosplay portraits.

Recommended reading:

• This Paris Review interview of Alice Munro from 1994. She passed away this week so they unlocked access to it, and it is just fantastic. I found it so profoundly humbling to read about her personal circumstances when she started her writing career in the 50’s, all of the forces that operated against her as a woman, and how being an artist necessitated being cold-hearted. It’s truly amazing to consider how she wrote what she did through all of that, and all that she lived through. One of our finest Canadians! I’ve got a stack of her books on hold at the library.
