Back thru the archives
or "you exist in the context of all in which you live and what came before you"
I am beginning the unenviable process of manually archiving every single one of my 3,600+ instagram posts (this entails opening each post into a tab, screenshotting the image and caption, and then renaming the file in YYYY-MM-DD format). I no longer have faith that the site won’t delete my whole account the second it determines one of my posts goes against guidelines (something I’ve seen happen to a few people!).
Going all the way back to 2013 has made a few things clear:
the experience of instagram in the early aughts was different in a way that’s hard to comprehend. With just a few hundred followers, I was having full conversations with very encouraging strangers on each of my posts. The feedback kept me posting and the consistency is inseparable from the eventual success I found.
